Last Day of Summer I

Baby blue sky, angel white clouds, the perfect summer day, a dream to remember. The river, ever flowing, the sun quietly shining, the birds softly singing, could it ever end? A gentle wind crashes the party, new waves lap up against pristine sand. Change is afoot somewhere in this summer paradise. The clouds thicken, the sun hiding behind a curtain of grey. Dismay, disappointment, a dismal day. I had watched the clouds coming,

heard the thunder, seen the lightning, so why was I sad when the raindrops came? Had I fallen for the myth of the last summer day? The rain was relentless, the darkness endless. The water drenched me, cold reality broke me, my paradise was no more. I sank beneath the tide, my fingers reaching for a world that no longer was.

Last Day of Summer II

Out of the blue, she left for where I did not know She, with her blue eyes, angelic smile, and heart of gold my best friend, my first love the girl of my dreams I called out in the quiet night don’t go, my love My life will be dark,

without my sunshine You brought light to my dark world You gave me hope when I had none

You brought me up,

was it only to break me down?

The stars won’t glimmer the winters won’t end,

the birds won’t sing

the fields will stand barren and unkempt,

the trees forgetting how to grow.

You ripped out my heart,

you broke me,

from the inside out

You were my summer,

and now my sun is gone. Last Day of Summer III

It’s time to go,

The bags are packed,

The taxi’s at the door,

The doors shut and locked.

I look back,

For the very last time,

At my summer palace,

At the place where everything began

And ended.

Fighting back tears,

I see the lemon tree,

Under which

We held hands for the very first time—

A bittersweet fruit

Of a love that wasn’t meant to be.

You told me then,

In the voice that melted my heart,

That you would never leave,

That our love would last forever.

But then you went,

And now I must leave also,

Away from this place

Where I found and lost.

The driver’s honking his horn—

The moment broke.

The snow started to fall,

The ground began to shake.

Summer was over,

And winter thus began.
