In Russia our Christmas is not on December 25th like in Europe and USA; it's on January 7th after New Year. We have an interesting tradition - Caroling. Caroling means going to houses of people and singing Christmas songs(carols) to them, and then getting some gifts for that. Every house owner must give gifts to the carolers. Usually carolers are given sweets, but often also money. You can go caroling from evening January 6th and till morning January 7th. First of all, you need to gather a company of several people and distribute them into roles. You need to choose someone who will carry the bag of gifts. To go caroling correctly, there are several rules and special attributes, but of course you can go without any costumes or attributes and still get gifts. The main thing is to sing the carols. To go caroling, you need to gather in a group of at least 3 people. The head of the carolers is the '"star". He goes first and carries the star. There should also be a "bell ringer" in the group of carolers. This person carries a large bell and rings it to notify that carolers are coming. The third role is the "mechonosh". This person carries a bag into which the owners of the houses put their gifts (sweets, money). Nowadays caroling is still very popular, although few people follow the rules of costumes or roles, but still they sing very nice Christmas songs. This tradition is very sweet in my opinion.
