Flags & Festivals
The Chinese flag is a red fabric with five yellow stars in the top left corner - one large and four small. It was chosen from several thousand designs and tweaked to make the stars appear more natural. The color red in China symbolizes joy, as seen in red lanterns during festivals, solemnity as a symbol of blood and sacrifice, and now our Communist heritage, making it a natural choice. The five stars symbolize unity, with the four smaller ones representing the four social groups that make up the countr, i.e. peasants, workers, petty bourgeoisie, and patriotic capitalists, and the largest star representing the CPC and the people. Its simple yet symbolic design has made it an icon recognized by everyone around the world.
