Local Climate
Russia is a very large country and it has almost every climate zone. But not all of its area is suitable for living, so population density is much lower in the eastern part of the country. Most of the country is located in a temperate climate zone, with quite comfortable weather conditions. But there are some cities like Verkhoyansk, which is the coldest city in the world. The coldest temperature that was registered here was −67.8 °C. But in the central part of Russia, winters are not that cold anymore. Usually, we have just a little snow in winter, and sadly, we can't even build a snowman out of it. But some years ago, every winter there was a lot of snow. Nowadays, the usual temperature in central Russia in winter is about 5 °C, while in northern regions it can be even -30°C. In southern regions, the temperature can still remain above 0, for example in Sochi, which is a resort city in the south, the usual temperature in winter is about 6°C. In summer, it can be very hot in southern cities. For example, in my city, the usual temperature in summer is about 30°C. There is a very popular stereotype that it's very cold in Russia, but for example, in my city, the winter is not that cold, and it's very hot in the summer. So, every time someone asks if it is cold in Russia, it is very funny for me.
