My English Learning Journey

When did my English learning journey begin? Since we have to learn English as a subject throughout our academic life, English is a very important language in Sri Lanka.

When I entered the first grade, I learned the English alphabet and some simple words. In later years in elementary school, I learned to construct simple sentences and write

essays about myself and my hobbies.

From grades 6 to 11, I delved into grammar, spoken English, and many other aspects of the English language. Now I am in grade 12, and I believe my English learning

journey has been satisfactory. I can now understand what others say and effectively communicate my thoughts. I enjoy learning English and continue to do so.

English is indeed an important language. It enables us to make friends worldwide, share our cultural experiences, and much more. Without a global language like English,

such interactions would be challenging. Proficiency in English broadens your horizons, opens up job opportunities, and facilitates communication with people from different

parts of the world. Having a good command of English is crucial for accessing information on most websites, as they are predominantly in English. English proficiency helps

break down many barriers we encounter. Thus, I believe that English is a language everyone should learn as it simplifies our lives.

The Russian Flag

By Jane (Russia)

The white-blue-red flag first appeared in Russia

under Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich. In 1667–1668,

the construction of the country's first warship, the

"Eagle", was underway, on which the tricolor

flag was raised. During the time of Peter I, the

tricolor had specific meanings: white symbolized

freedom, blue symbolized the Mother of God,

and red symbolized the power of the state.

Many symbolic meanings are attributed to the colors of the current Russian

flag, but there is no official interpretation of the colors. For most, white

symbolizes nobility and frankness; blue represents loyalty, honesty,

impeccability, and chastity and red signifies courage, bravery, generosity,

and love.
