Christmas Specials
During the Christmas season, it's common to see a variety of decorated apples for sale in Chinese supermarkets. This tradition stems from the Mandarin word for apple, "pinguǒ," which sounds similar to the word for "peaceful" or "safe" in Mandarin. This similarity has led to the practice of giving apples to loved ones as a way to express well wishes during the Christmas season. Although non-Chinese holidays are becoming less popular, the tradition of giving apples remains an interesting phenomenon many remember.
