Chinese New Year
The Chinese Spring Festival, also known as the Lunar New Year or Chunjie, is the most significant traditional festival in China. Celebrated on the first day of the lunar calendar, typically in January or February, it marks the end of winter and the beginning of spring. Families reunite for a grand feast, exchanging red envelopes (hongbao) with money for good luck. Streets come alive with vibrant dragon and lion dances, fireworks, and so on. The festival symbolizes renewal, prosperity, and the hope for a prosperous year ahead. It is a time of joy, reflection, and cultural festivities that extend across China and the global Chinese diaspora.
